Sheep Down on the Farm
Have you ever heard of Texel Sheep? They aren't very popular in the United States... yet! Why aren't they popular in the U.S.? This rare breed was first imported to the U.S. as recently as 1985. However, this breed originated off the coast of the Netherlands on an isle appropriately named Texel in the mid-1800s and are the dominate breed in Europe.
They are widely popular due to their docile nature, heavy muscling, and lean meat.

Why Katahdin Ewes? Ahhh, now see, we don't necessarily want to have to shear our sheep. Therefore, we have hair sheep. The Katahdin are a special breed of sheep that is highly parasitic-resistant, meaning if you rotate your pasture, and can use organic parasite preventatives, these sheep will never need harmful anti-parasitic drugs. These drugs cause drug-resistant worms in sheep causing many to die. Also, the Katahdin breed usually birth twins, triplets, and sometimes quadruplets. Katahdins produce lots of milk for their babies. Here at Posky Farm, all our ewes had relatively easy births and are great mothers.

So, why mix a Texel Ram with a Katahdin Ewe? That is easy; you get the best of both worlds! You get amazing mothers with the added benefits of massive-lean meat.

Our Farm has never had hoof rot or Caseous Lymphadenitis. Our flock was Codon tested to be RR, meaning you don't have to worry about Scrapie. We are registered with Texel Sheep Breeders Society and Tennessee Sheep Producers Association.
